A Peaceful Retreat Alongside a Living Tradition
Whether you choose to immerse yourself in this peaceful atmosphere or simply enjoy the comfort of the hotel, the experience is yours to shape.
Neydo lies just behind Bhanjang village, about twenty kilometres from Kathmandu — under an hour by road. Buses leave Kathmandu’s old bus park for Pharping or Dakshinkali; fares are under a dollar, though Saturday afternoons – the city’s traditional day of rest — can slow travel.
Private transfer service is also available.
The rule at Neydo is simple: treat the monastery, the hotel, and the land around it as you would your own home. Alcohol, loud noise, and inappropriate conduct are not permitted within the monastery grounds.
Everything you need to know before your stay, from travel requirements to meals, packing, transportation, and getting to Neydo.
Is Neydo Hotel part of the monastery?
No. Neydo Hotel is an independently operated hotel located on the same premises as Neydo Tashi Choeling Monastery. It is not a monastic institution and a stay does not involve monastic vows, schedule, or accommodation inside the monastery itself. The hotel shares its grounds with the monastery, and proceeds from every stay help support it directly.
Do I need a visa for Nepal?
Yes. Visas are available on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, or at land borders with India and Tibet. Bring a passport photo and payment in US dollars — fifteen-day ($25), thirty-day ($40), and three-month ($100) multiple-entry visas are available.
What should I bring?
Nothing unusual: comfortable shoes for walking or hiking, warm layers for cold nights, and good grip for the monsoon months (June to August), when trails can turn slippery.
What do meals cost?
Breakfast is included in the room rate. Lunch and dinner are charged separately; a full meal typically costs under US$12.
How far is Neydo from Kathmandu?
About twenty-two kilometers, and under an hour by road.
Is alcohol available at Neydo?
No. In keeping with the hotel’s respect for the neighbouring monastery, no alcoholic beverages are served anywhere on the property.
Is the food at Neydo vegetarian?
Yes. The restaurant serves vegetarian food only, using produce sourced from the villages around Neydo.
Does Neydo Hotel have many rooms?
Neydo Hotel offers a select number of rooms set on the monastery grounds, with views over either the monastery or the Hattiban forest — an intimate, uncrowded stay rather than a large resort.
Can hotel guests take part in monastery life?
Yes, entirely by choice. Guests are welcome to sit in on prayers and join a guided teaching and meditation session with a resident monk, as much or as little as they choose.
